MV LAVINGTON COURT

The vessel was torpedoed by U-564 at 02.30 hours on July 19, 1942 about 200 miles north of the Azores.
The master (John William Sutherland) 33 crew members, five gunners and two passengers were picked up by HMS Wellington (L 65) and landed at Londonderry. The vessel was taken in tow but foundered on August 1, southwest of Ireland.

Five crew members, one gunner and one passenger were lost. The five crew are commemorated Tower Hill Panel 64 and the Gunner on Plymouth Naval Memorial. The passenger (military personnel) is unknown.

ROSS, Donkeyman, DAVID, S.S. Lavington Court (London). Merchant Navy. 18th July 1942. Age 22. Son of David Ross, Engineman, R.N. Patrol Service, killed in action 7th September, 1940, and Henrietta Ross, of Edinburgh.

TULLOCH, Able Seaman, PETER, M.V. Lavington Court (London). Merchant Navy. 18th July 1942. Age 24. Son of John and Margaret Tulloch.

DAVIDSON, Able Seaman, WILLIAM ARNOTT, P/JX 335147. H.M.S. President III. Royal Navy. (lost in S.S. Lavington Court). 18th July 1942. Age 19. Son of Robert G. and Euphernia W. A. Davidson, of Dunfermline.
